Intel Core i7-8550U
Az Intel Core i7-8550U egy Kaby Lake Refresh alapú energiatakarékos négymagos lapkakészlet, amely notebookok és Ultrabookok számára készült, és 2017. augusztusában jelentették be. Közvetlen elődeivel, a Core i7-7500U-val és az i5-7260U-val ellentétben az i7-8550U valódi négymagos, ugyanakkor alacsonyabb alap órajelen dolgozik (1.8 GHz). A Turbo Boost órajele még nem nyilvános, de várhatóan 3.7 - 4 GHz körül lesz, azaz egymagos módban is remek rövid távú teljesítményt várhatunk tőle. A GPU új nevet kapott: Intel UHD Graphics 620-nak hívják, de amúgy azonos az Intel HD Graphics 620-zal.
Az Intel lényegében ugyanazt a mikroarchitektúrát használja, mint a Skylake-nél, tehát MHz-re lebontva nem különbözik a teljesítményük. A gyártó csak a Speed Shift technológiát dolgozta át, gyorsabb feszültség- és órajelváltásokat lehetővé téve, valamint a fejlettebb, 14 nm technológia az eddigieknél jóval magasabb frekvenciát és nagyobb hatékonyságot tesz lehetővé.
Az i7-8550U teljesítménye a laptop hűtésétől és a megadott TDP limitektől függ. Ez a benchmark eredményekben komoly eltéréseket eredményez, az Intel 15 wattos referenciájától egészen az Inspiron 17-7773 23%-kal magasabb Cinebench R15 Multi benchmark eredményéig terjedő tartományban. A CPU hosszabb távú terhelése esetén ez a különbség még nagyobb is lehet.
Szokásos benchmarkjainkban az i7-8550U átlagban annyit tud, mint a 35 wattos Core i5-7440HQ. Egy szálon pedig a magas Turbo Boost frekvenciának köszönhetően a mobil CPU-k között az egyik legmagasabb pontszámot kapta.
Az integrált Intel UHD Graphics 620 (Intel 9.5. gen.) ugyanaz, mint a 8. generációs Kaby Lake chipekben. Gyors dual-channel memóriájának hála a dedikált GeForce 920M teljesítményével egy szinten van.
A Skylake-kel ellentétben a Kaby Lake támogatja a hardveres dekódolást H.265/HEVC Main 10 esetében, 10 bites színmélységben, valamint a Google VP9 kodekje esetében is. A kétmagos Kaby Lake processzorok, amelyeket januárban jelentettek be, már a HDCP 2.2-t is támogatják.
A chip egy fejlettebb, 14 nm-es technológiával, és FinFET tranzisztorokkal készült, amely még hatékonyabb működést tesz lehetővé. Az Intel még mindig 15 wattra specifikálja a TDP-jét, amely tipikus érték ULV chipeknél. A használattól függően a TDP 7.5 (cTDP Down) és 25 watt között változhat.
