Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . A ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2018-as verziója nem olyan sokat változott az előzőhöz képest. A ház gyakorlatilag ugyanaz, a Lenovo csak pár vizuális részletet változtatott. A fekete logók és zsanérok tetszetősek, de az új, színes X1 logót a fedélen időbe telik megszokni. A 14 hüvelykes ház extrém mobilis, tömege alig 1,1 kg, ez mégsem hat ki a stabilitására. A Lenovo újratervezte a csatlakozókat, így a Thunderbolt port és a bal oldali hálózati aljzat lett az új mechanikus dokkoló csatlakozó.

Az opcionális HDR WQHD panel egyike a két nagyobb újdonságnak. A Lenovo az 500 nits fényerővel reklámozza, méréseink szerint pedig ennél még többet is tud. A szín gamut is nagyon jó, és a HDR opció felára kifejezetten baráti. Ugyanakkor nem ajánljuk minden felhasználónak. A legnagyobb gond a tükröződő felszín, amely még beltérben is problémát jelenthet. Ezen felül a betekintési szögtől függően némi vöröses elszíneződés is látszik rajta. A Windows pedig jelenleg nem ismeri fel HDR kijelzőként, de ezt elvileg nemsokára patch-elik.

Az Intel új négymagos ULV processzora a másik új komponens.  Már sok különböző eredményt láttunk az ULV processzorok legújabb nemzedékétől, és a Lenovo saját termékpalettájában is komoly változások voltak, már ami a teljesítmény hasznosítását illeti. A tavalyi X1 Carbon meglehetősen konzervatív hőmérsékleti limittel dolgozott, idén azonban a gyártó sokkal nagyobb teret hagyott a CPU-nak. Ez tartós terhelés esetén magasabb burkolati hőmérséklethez vezet, de ugyanakkor nagyobb teljesítményből gazdálkodhatunk. Ennek hasznosítása amúgy is elég jó a vékony gépek között, de felveti a kérdést, hogy a Core i7 processzor mennyire éri meg a Core i5-tel szemben. Az i7 (akár 4 GHz) magas órajele gyors felmelegedést eredményez, azaz a ventilátor hamarabb felpörög. Ezen mondjuk a jövőbeli BIOS frissítések valószínűleg segítenek.

A Lenovo opcionális HDR panelje jó kijelző, de a nagyon tükrös felület miatt nem jó választás mindenki számára. Egy matt WQHD panel megfelelőbb lehet, főleg ha sokat vagyunk úton. Az összes konfig remek billentyűzetet kapott, valamint a modern USB-C (TB3) és a megszokott USB-A csatlakozók kombinációjával van ellátva.

Az üzemidő nem sokat változott, de a korábbi WQHD konfiguráció kicsit tovább bírta. A trend az egyre vékonyabb készülékek felé tart, azok minden előnyével és hátrányával. Ezt szem előtt tartva két dolognak különösen örültünk. A Lenovo nem csak modern Thunderbolt 3 képes portokat, hanem szabvány USB-A csatlakozókat is pakolt a gépbe, amelyek az USB meghajtók és más perifériák kezelését sokkal kényelmesebbé teszik. Ezen felül az egyik legjobb billentyűzetet kaptuk (nem csak a vékony laptopok között), amelynek használata öröm, különösen azok számára, akik sokat gépelnek.

Sajnos a Lenovo megmaradt a korábbi, bonyolult megoldásnál a WWAN modulok esetében. Ha igényli az ember, akkor a külön LTE-képes modellek közül kell válogatnia, mivel amúgy a gép nem rendelkezik ehhez szükséges antennákkal. Az Intel legújabb Wi-Fi moduljai közül is szívesen láttunk volna egyet a Lenovo csúcs-ultrabookjában. Az is sajnálatos, hogy a HDR funkció még nem működik. Amennyiben bármi előrelépés lesz ebben az ügyben, azonnal megírjuk.
