Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

A VivoBook Pro 17-ben semmi különösebben figyelemre méltó nincs, de nem is az a célja, hogy bármely kategóriának a határait feszegesse. Ehelyett egy összességében gazdaságos választás akar lenni azok számára, akik egy életképes, jó mindennapi összteljesítményű gépet szeretnének, némi játékképességgel, de nem akarnak plusz pénzt fizetni a felső kategóriás külcsínért, és az egyéb sallangokért.

A VivoBook Pro 17-ben semmi különösebben figyelemre méltó nincs, de nem is az a célja, hogy bármely kategóriának a határait feszegesse. Ehelyett egy összességében gazdaságos választás akar lenni azok számára, akik egy életképes, jó mindennapi összteljesítményű gépet szeretnének, némi játékképességgel, elfogadható áron - néhány hátrány elviseléséért cserébe.

A legtöbb dologban (legalábbis kikötésekkel) ez sikerül is neki. A vékony és könnyű VivoBook Pro 17 átlag teljesítménye remek, gyors SSD-t használ és szokványos játékalkalmakat gond nélkül kezelni tud. A kijelző amúgy összességében is elég jó: magas fényerő, jó betekintés, megfelelő színhűség és matt felület.

Fenntartásaink így is vannak, és nem feltétlenül csak kicsik. Míg a VivoBook Pro 17 orvosolja 15 inches testvérének több hiányosságát, a Core i7-8550U (ahogyan elég gyakran előfordul) nem képes a többmagos teljesítményét olyan szinten tartósan fenntartani, hogy az igazolja létjogosultságát mondjuk egy Core i5-8250U-val szemben (bár az egymagos teljesítménye azért egyértelműen jobb). A  notebook csatlakozókínálata átlag alatti, műanyag háza középszerű, a karbantartása nehézkes, a billentyűzete nem túl jó, de legalább kényelmetlen a kiosztása, a gép felszíne erősen forrósodik, valamint az üzemideje is rövid. Amennyiben ezek egyike sem rettent el valakit, úgy ez egy gazdaságos alternatíva lehet a kategória drágább prémium modelljeihez (pl. a Dell XPS 15 9560-hoz) képest. Ugyanakkor hasonlóan árazott, de eltérő pro/kontra listával rendelkező gépek széles választéka elérhető (mint például az Acer Aspire 7 A71-71G-72VY)— szóval, ahogyan az gyakran előfordul ebben a gazdaságosság-orientált szegmensben, a kérdés most is az, hogy milyen kompromisszumokat szeretnénk kötni?
