A HP a designt is jelentős mértékben változtatta, hasonlóra, mint amit az EliteBook 840 G5 tesztje során láttunk. Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

A HP ZBook 14u G5 egy 14 inches mobil munkaállomás, amely megfelel a kategóriája követelményeinek, gyors CPU-jával és professzionális GPU-jával. A képet biztonsági funkciók bő készlete, valamint egy gyors NVMe SSD teszi teljessé. Összességében, a HP egy viszonylag megfizethető mobil munkaállomást alkotott, amely 1680 eurós árával óhatatlanul felveti a kérdést, hogy megéri-e ennél többet költenünk egy felsőbb kategóriás munkaállomásra. 

Azért hiányosság is akad, egészen pontosan a kijelző. A 215 cd/m² maximális fényerő ennyiért elfogadhatatlan, a gyatra színlefedettség szintén. Egyes olcsó irodai gépeknek is jobb kijelzője van, mint a ZBook 14u G5-nek. Gyakorlatilag megoldható a probléma egy dokkolóval, és külső monitorokkal, de egy mobil munkaállomásban alapértelmezettként is jobb kijelzőt várnánk el. A kártyaolvasó hiányát szintén nem értjük.

A CPU, a GPU, és a rendszer hűtése is hagy némi kívánnivalót maga után. Terhelés alatt nem bír lépést tartani a géppel, és a CPU teljesítménye is rosszabb, mint a hasonló gépek hasonló processzorai. Ami még nagyobb probléma, hogy a GPU gyakran az öregebb AMD FirePro W4190M GPU teljesítményét sem hozza. Ez azt jelenti, hogy a ZBook 14u G5-öt elődje is lenyomja egyes professzionális alkalmazásokban.

A HP ZBook 14u G5 kiváló minőségű háza karcsúbb elődjénél. A HP egy lenyűgöző mobil munkaállomást alkotott, amely megérdemli a lehetséges vásárlók figyelmét.

Pozitívum, hogy a HP egy sor konfigurációs lehetőséget kínál. Sajnos, az AMD Radeon Pro WX 3100 helyett nincs más alternatíva. Összességében, a rendszer teljesítménye megfelelő, a jó üzemidő pedig hab a tortán. Ezen felül, az USB-C Thunderbolt csatlakozó bizonyos mértékben időtállóvá is teszi a gépet.
