If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

A Dell fő célja az volt a 8. generációs Kaby Lake-R beépítésével, hogy az XPS 13 CPU teljesítményét egy javított hőháztartás kialakítása mellett megnövelje. Ezért a legújabb kiadást magasabb maghőmérsékletekre készítették fel elődeinél, de úgy, hogy ez ne rontsa le a felhasználói élményt, illetve a felszíni hőmérséklet ne emelkedjen egy kellemetlen szintre. Tesztjeink többé-kevésbé megerősítették azt az állítást, hogy a magok még 90°C fölé is mehetnek anélkül, hogy a ventilátornak maximális fordulatra kellene kapcsolnia. A felszín eközben kicsivel melegebb lesz a billentyűzet egyes részein, de a tenyértámasznál és a trackpadnél ez soha nem kényelmetlen.

A jelentős CPU, és kisebb GPU teljesítménynövekedésen kívül nem maradt más meglepetés ebben az XPS 13 generációban. Elődeinek az előnyeit és hátrányait is megtartotta. Vannak érvek az i7-7560U-s konfig megvétele mellett az i7-8550U-assal szemben, mivel az Iris videochip 18%-kal gyorsabb, mint az UHD Graphics 620, de a CPU viszont olyan 40%-kal kisebb teljesítményt produkál, amely nem kis különbség. Erőforrásigényesebb alkalmazásoknál, amelyek kihasználják az új Kaby Lake-R magasabb magszámát, érdemes lehet az új XPS 13-at választani. Ugyanakkor van még hová fejlődnie, mivel a stabilan tartható 2.5 GHz órajel messze van az elméletileg elérhető 3.7 GHz-től. Emiatt kíváncsiak vagyunk, hogy más, azonos CPU-val szerelt, a következő pár hétben megjelenő ultrabookok mit mutatnak majd.

Az XPS 13 ismét nagyon erős versenyző lesz az ünnepi subnotebook hajrában. A teljesítmény növekedése látható, de fenntarthatóbb Turbo Boost-ban reménykedtünk.
