Üdv ismét a köreinkben, Galaxy Note, merre jártál? Tekintsünk el attól, hogy nem így hívják, és hajlítható vonalon másfajta csúcsot képvisel a Z Fold3: az S22 Ultra ma a Samsung tudásának legjava, és félmilliós árához, illetve sokrétű tollához méltó 6,8”-es, döbbenetesen fényes kijelzője. Nem is értem, miért ment szabadságra a felette operáló S Pen: minden funkciója hasznos és passzol a produktív használathoz a szögletes, tiszta dizájn. A féltégla jelleg pedig azért nem kap kritikát, mert most tényleg a méret a lényeg, és idén amúgy is apróbb a belépő S22 – persze tollból és kamerából áldozva. Funkcióban, fotóban és videóban kétségtelenül az Ultra képviseli a márkánál a csúcsot, a portrék is kiválóak, viszont a JPG feldolgozáson lehetne finomítani. Az asztali kivetítés és a multimédia remek a DeX-szel és minőségi sztereó hanggal, ahogy az 5G-vel fémjelzett adatkommunikációs csomag is kipipál minden fontosat. Mégsem lett az Ultra tökéletes: bár a 4 nm-es Exynos 2200 az Xclipse GPU-val hűvösebben operál az elődjénél, az előbújó dadogásokon és az átlag feletti fogyasztásán bőven lehetne finomítani.

As you can probably tell from the length of this review, there’s a heck of a lot to talk about when it comes to the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Samsung’s Note but not a Note, this year’s top-end S-series flagship stands well apart from its cheaper siblings, and it’s clear that you’re getting an awful lot more for the added cost. But, of course, that cost is a particularly potent pain point. Starting at £1,149 for the 128GB model and running all the way up to £1,499 for 1TB of storage, the S22 Ultra is the priciest (non-folding) flagship on the market. It’s £100 more than the already expensive iPhone 13 Pro Max, after all, so it really ought to be practically flawless to justify the increased expense. Except it does stumble a little along the way. The performance improvements aren’t quite as big as I would have liked and the battery life decrease is a bit worrisome. If you’ve still got last year’s S21 Ultra in your hands, you might want to hold on to it for at least a little while longer. However, if you’re looking for the very best that Android can muster and are blessed with deep pockets, you can’t do any better than the S22 Ultra.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is Samsung’s latest flagship and comes with multiple upgrades over its predecessor, like a built-in S pen and bigger sensors to improve night photography. It sports a 6.8″ display with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. Samsung says the new chipset, the Exynos 2200 (4 nm) in Europe, is its fastest ever. On the audio front, the device has two speakers producing “surround sound with Dolby Atmos technology.” Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus are included. As for recording, S22 Ultra has Zoom-in MIC (Audio zoom), which Samsung describes as “an audio recording function that focuses on the direction of interest using a combination of 3 built-in MICs while video recording.” We put the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (Exynos) through our rigorous DXOMARK Audio test suite to measure its performance both at recording sound using its built-in microphones, and at playing audio back through its speakers. Samsung’s latest flagship appeared with very promising specs, including screen brightness claimed to reach 1750 cd/m2, an adaptive frame rate, and a Vision Booster feature that adjusts the display tone mapping to ambient lighting conditions. We compared the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (Exynos) with its predecessor, the S21 Ultra 5G (Exynos), and with two of its principal competitors, the Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max and the OnePlus 9 Pro. So what did DXOMARK engineers find during testing? Well, first of all, yes, the S22 Ultra (Exynos) display measured 1777 cd/m2 in our brightness tests — the brightest smartphone display ever — and thanks to this, it shows strong improvement in readability under sunlight. And second, Samsung achieves the new top video score thanks to good brightness, proper tone mapping, and good color rendering. As for drawbacks, the new device’s default brightness is too low under indoor and shady outdoor conditions; and even though the Vision Booster feature makes detail easier to see in some images viewed under sunlight, it adversely impacts the color rendering in others.

The S22 Ultra is also the first S-series model to come with a built-in S-Pen, a feature that has previously been exclusive to the Note series. In the camera array, the primary module uses a 108MP sensor, which in low light combines nine pixels into one for a very large 2.4μm pixel size. There is also a 12MP ultra-wide camera and two dedicated tele cameras. Medium-range tele duties are taken over by a 3x lens with 10MP resolution. For more extreme tele magnifications, a 10x periscope-style module is available. The primary camera also features an ultra-low reflection nano-coating, which is designed to reduce lens flare. In video mode, the S22 Ultra is capable of recording 8K footage at 24 frames per second or 4K resolution files at up to 60 fps. The specs surely look impressive. What's more, this is the closest you'll get to a Galaxy Note anytime soon. If you want the very best then this is, by any measure, a truly noteworthy Ultra.
