Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Ahogyan a "világ legvékonyabb notebookja"-nak fel kellett áldoznia bizonyos dolgokat a kívánt marketing előny elérése érdekében, úgy a "világ legkönnyebb ultrabookja" is saját, egyedi hátrányokkal rendelkezik. Az LG Gram 15 ugyan hihetetlenül könnyű, de a tulajdonosoknak a funkciók hosszú listáját kell mellőzni - olyanokat, amelyek a "normális tömegű" ultrabookokban jelen vannak.

A legfeltűnőbb hiányosság a gyenge ház. A keskeny keretes kijelzőt nem erősítették meg egy széltől szélig tartó üvegpanellel, így sokkal hajlékonyabb, mint más ultrabookoknál megszokott. A magnéziumötvözet alap vékonynak tűnik, főleg az XPS 15 vastag és szívós vázához képest. A fenti megoldások tehát a stabilitás árán értek el vékonyodást.

A teljesítmény terén is vannak visszavágások: nincs dedikált GPU-s változata, és a processzor nem képes nagyon sokáig fenntartani a maximum Turbo Boost sebességet. A többi hiányosság függetlennek tűnik a kis tömegtől, úgy mint a viszonylag gyenge kijelző háttérfény, átlagos erősségű zsanérok, lágy billentyűzet és trackpad, kényelmetlen kamera elhelyezkedés és a Thunderbolt 3 hiánya. Összességében, az LG Gram olcsóbbnak és gyengébb minőségűnek érződik, mint a nehezebb és stabilabb riválisok, például az XPS 15, a Spectre x360 15, vagy a Yoga 720. A frissített Gram Z15980 elvileg orvosolja majd a hiányosságok jó részét, de a változások mértékének felméréséhez majd az újabb modell alapos tesztje lesz szükséges.

A hátrányok mellett egy pár erénye is van a készüléknek. A zajszintje általában alacsony, meglepő módon mindkét háttértár és a RAM is bővíthető, a portválaszték elég bőséges, és a kezdőára pár száz dollárral alacsonyabb az ismert gyártók rivális ultrabookjainál. Amennyiben kifejezetten könnyű 15 inches ultrabookra van szükségünk, úgy inkább a Samsung Notebook 9-et ajánljuk a Gram 15Z975 helyett, mivel a Samsung majdnem ugyanilyen könnyű, és stabilabb billentyűzetet, valamint kültéren jobban használható, sokkal világosabb kijelzőt kínál.

A pehelysúlyú Gram 15 elvileg a gyakori utazásokat és kültéri használatot támogatja, de a viszonylag sötét kijelzőtől kezdve, a szivacsos billentyűkön és rosszul elhelyezett webkamerán át, a gyengének tűnő házig minden ellene szól annak, hogy az LG készülékét ajánlani tudjuk.
