The Dell 16 Plus 2-in-1 buries the Inspiron nameplate and resurrects itself in a fresh design that looks clean and simple. Though, I will say, this is a chunky boy and has some heft to it. A lot of this has to do with the 2-in-1 design and the hinges needed for such a design. It’s not heavier than the competition, so it’s not an issue when it comes to comparing. But for those who want light and portable, this boy may be a bit hefty. Maybe a 14″ would be better for portability. The new keyboard is comfortable, backlit, and has decent key travel. The trackpad is OK but could be improved. I suggest you shell out for the mini-LED display because it is fantastic. It’s bright with great color reproduction and the blacks are great as are the whites.

Given its premium positioning, I also expected more from the laptop's speakers. They sound fine compared to most Windows laptops, but they can't hold a candle to the audio sorcery Apple accomplishes with the 16-inch MacBook Pro. When playing music, the 16 Premium doesn't have much dynamic range or low-end tone, whereas Apple's speakers often surprise me with their depth and enveloping sound. During late night writing sessions, I often find myself playing music straight through the 16-inch MacBook Pro, rather than casting it off to my Sonos speakers like the 16 Premium forces me to do. To avoid being entirely negative, I'll reiterate that I genuinely enjoy looking at the Dell 16 Premium. I love the way its keyboard and large key caps lay perfectly flat along the notebook's lower half. And I'll admit, the 16-inch OLED screen looks lusciously colorful when it needs to. I'm just asking for Dell's designers to consider a better balance of style and functionality for their next stab at a premium 16-inch laptop.

To avoid being entirely negative, I'll reiterate that I genuinely enjoy looking at the Dell 16 Premium. I love the way its keyboard and large key caps lay perfectly flat along the notebook's lower half. And I'll admit, the 16-inch OLED screen looks lusciously colorful when it needs to. I'm just asking for Dell's designers to consider a better balance of style and functionality for their next stab at a premium 16-inch laptop.

Does an XPS by any other name still smell as sweet? For the most part, yes – though Dell hasn’t used its range-spanning rebrand as an opportunity to address the old model’s issues. The Dell 16 Premium looks as sharp as ever and has plenty of performance potential, but the touch-sensitive keyboard is still controversial and connectivity is merely OK for a 16in machine. Battery life is also disappointing if you go with the OLED screen option – which you’ll absolutely want to do, because it’s gorgeous. Alternatives have builds that aren’t quite as polished, but I’d still give them the nod over this for their longer lifespans – and the fact you can find many with dedicated graphics for the same price as the Dell. Not wedded to Windows? Then there’s no question the MacBook Pro remains my top pick overall.

The Dell 16 Premium is a lovely laptop if you want lots of style in a premium chassis and a sublime 4K OLED screen, plus decent power for creative workloads. Its unchanged port selection, lattice keyboard and seamless trackpad, plus okay battery life, may shift folks elsewhere, though. Those elements are unchanged from the Dell XPS 16 (2024), although this laptop provides a solid uptick in performance on the CPU side with its new generation. The Asus ProArt P16 (2025), for my money, is the better choice overall, though – it has much stronger battery life, a more varied port selection, and retains the MacBook Pro feel without a funny keyboard or trackpad. Of course, there is the Apple MacBook Pro M4, which beats both Asus and Dell in terms of processing power, but if you want Windows, then you’re left with these options anyway.
