The HP EliteBook X G1a is a very capable business laptop with potent power from its AMD Strix Point processor, plus a dazzling high-res OLED display, solid battery life and a capable port selection. Against similarly-sized rivals from Lenovo and Dell, it is a little bit heavy, though. It ticks pretty much all of the boxes that folks could ask for out of a reliable, enterprise-grade laptop at a very similar price to the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition and Dell 14 Premium, while offering beefier performance thanks to its AMD Strix Point chip. The chink in this laptop’s armour is quite minor, with it being heavier than the competing Lenovo and Dell choices, and the battery life isn’t as strong as Dell’s option by several hours. With this in mind, the HP EliteBook X G1a is a fantastic laptop for business users who want a powerful choice with a lovely OLED screen, solid endurance, ports and more besides. It’s curious how the order in which I review things can significantly influence my thinking about them, and the EliteBook X G1a falls into that category. Had I not seen the HP Zbook Ultra G1a 14 and its breathtaking performance, then I’d probably be more enthusiastic about the EliteBook X G1a, because it’s spectacular compared to almost everything else. Its problem is that if you are prepared to spend a lot, and some clearly are, then the HP ZBook Ultra G1a 14 is the machine to have, not this one. However, if you are happy to have something which is powerful and suitable for local AI, then this is exceptional and should deliver the punchy performance you need. It’s not cheap, but it’s built for its purpose and priced accordingly.

The EliteBook X G1a success admirably at its objective of providing a laptop that will keep businesses happy. It offers a number of management and security features that large enterprises demand, along with a build quality that will hold up to the rigors of travel. It’s also very fast and takes Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC AI initiative a step further with some nifty HP exclusives. If you want better battery life, you’ll want to opt for the more power-efficient display. But this is an easy laptop to recommend for all but budget-conscious consumers.

If you're curious to see how well an AMD-powered AI PC will hold up, HP makes the claim that the HP EliteBook X will be the most powerful AI PC on the market. Backed by its NPU running at 55 TOPs and faster memory, it seems like this boast isn't completely unwarranted. Meanwhile, the aesthetics of said laptop are quite impressive so far, as is the port selection.
