I can safely say that the Dell XPS 14 offers the best build quality of any Windows laptop I've personally tested — and I've used many that are more expensive than this one. The XPS 14 feels premium and sturdy while keeping thickness and weight to a minimum. The price tag is high for the performance you get from this machine, so be aware that you're paying a premium for the aluminum chassis and Gorilla Glass on the display and palm rest. For some, that won't be an issue, because Windows laptop manufacturers dismiss the importance of build quality all too often. I have to stop short of giving the XPS 14 a decisive recommendation for those who want a premium Windows laptop, and the keyboard and trackpad are the two reasons why. People who care about refined build quality most likely also value a satisfying, error-free keyboard and touchpad experience. The gapless keyboard layout and the oversized touchpad simply don't offer that experience, and it weakens the value proposition of what would otherwise be a standout machine. Still, the XPS 14 certainly has a market. There's an audience that will happily pay a markup for elegant design, even if that futuristic look comes at the expense of keyboard and touchpad usability. This is who the XPS 14 is for. If Dell further refines the keyboard in a successor, the XPS 14 could be a better fit for even more people. Dell brought back the XPS brand, and the return is better than the original. The Dell XPS 14 addresses one of the biggest complaints with prior models by adding a physical function key row. The aluminum chassis is premium, and the OLED touchscreen is incredible. The price, though? It's not as competitive as other laptops in its performance class.

The Dell XPS 14 (2026) is a solid Windows ultrabook with a sharp, redesigned look, great battery life and a decent IPS screen. For the price, though, this base model cuts a fair few corners in terms of port selection, overall grunt and display quality against rivals that make it a little more difficult to recommend. For reference, the Asus Zenbook A14 (2026) costs the same price as the base model XPS 14 (2026) and provides even longer battery life, more power with its Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Elite processor, a more varied port selection and is some 400g lighter. The Acer Swift Edge 14 AI may have one of Intel’s last-gen Lunar Lake chips inside, but it’s just as brisk as this Dell choice, and has a stronger port selection, similar battery life and is also lighter. It makes the XPS 14 (2026) in this configuration a little harder to recommend than in one of the beefier options available, although then you have other pro-grade laptops to consider that may have it beaten on ports and other, smaller things. 80% If you've got money to burn, I found a near-perfect laptop

I don't see any reason to be against this laptop as it does a ton right. What you need to do is research what you want out of a laptop and make a decision from there. I would highly recommend combing the options on Dell's website to drop the price if you don't need everything the highest-end options have to offer. For example, I don't need anywhere close to 32 GB on a laptop, and I barely need that on my desktop PC. On the other hand, somebody doing a lot of video editing benefits from that. If you do end up getting this laptop, I have no doubt that you'll be impressed with what it has to offer. I give it a cautious recommendation based only on the fact that it's overkill for the casual person, even if you do cut some of the higher-end features. I wouldn't recommend this laptop to somebody looking to just casually surf the web. There are far cheaper options for people like that. This is a very good, lightweight laptop, and if it fits your needs, it won't let you down.

Intel’s Core Ultra 5 325 is a weakness at this price point, however. $1,400 is enough to snag a number of alternative laptops with AMD Ryzen 7/9 AI or Intel Core Series 7 chips, and most of these will have a significant advantage. The integrated GPU performance is more competitive but still not impressive.

With the XPS 14, Dell corrects many of the missteps it took with the previous 14 Premium. I love its sleek looks, solid feel and trim dimensions. And I love the fact that it's more than half a pound lighter than the tank that was the Dell 14 Premium. In this head-to-head, the MacBook Pro wins in terms of both power and efficiency, with better performance scores on nearly every test and longer battery life. And I still favor the MacBook Pro's overall design, even if it is a bit heavier. The XPS 14's return is a triumphant one overall, but the MacBook Pro is still the better premium laptop for creators.

Dell listened to its fans this year and brought back the XPS name. That's already a win, but a good thermal solution, powerful processors, and a chassis redesign that makes it even more futuristic seal the deal. It feels more MacBook Pro-ish than the tapered base of last year's Dell 14 Premium, offers plenty of battery life, and has good screens, whether you opt for IPS or OLED. If you need graphical prowess for content creation or gaming, go for the Core Ultra X7 358H, but the more affordable Core Ultra 7 355 is plenty for general computing tasks. And with more powerful processors, you also get an NPU for Copilot+. I know Dell apologized for how AI-centric last year's marketing was, but some of the features (especially the webcam ones) are things I use every day, and it feels weird when I use a laptop that doesn't have them. This is a superb laptop at any tier; it's just a shame that computer component pricing, as it is, might push it out of reach for many.

I personally didn’t lose much sleep over the XPS rebranding last year, the way many of my colleagues did, but I’m sure the XPS’s triumphant return from exile will make plenty of people happy. What I care far more about, though, is the redesign of these two laptops, particularly the Function keys and the trackpad. Those fixes alone make this the one laptop I’m most excited to test out in the next few weeks, and if Intel Panther Lake can live up to its hype, these two models just might be the laptops to buy in 2026.

It feels like only a year ago that Dell killed all branding on its laptops, telling journalists we were wrong when we almost universally told them they were crazy. That's because it was only a year ago, but the company has seen the error of its ways and it's bringing back XPS, starting with a new Dell XPS 14 and XPS 16. In a CES 2026 pre-briefing, Dell reps didn't mince words. It completely owned the blunder of discontinuing the most recognizable brand in Windows consumer laptops.

The new XPS 13 isn’t merely a foil to the Neo—it’s a worthy budget option in its own right. College students, for example, are likely to love this build for the price. It’s fun, highly portable, and stylish. As a MacBook alternative, even if Windows versus macOS is often the true deciding factor, the XPS has plenty to offer. I appreciate the metal build, roomy touch screen, lighter body, and key backlighting. If you aren’t deciding just by operating system, the XPS 13 makes a compelling case for itself. Dell will also sell more expensive XPS 13 versions with Intel Panther Lake processors at a later date. The Wildcat Lake version launches this month, and Dell representatives said that Panther Lake models will land around July.

I think that the new XPS 13 is a really exciting entry into the lineup. It is an XPS in every way, offering some lower-tier specs like Wildcat Lake Intel chips and lesser RAM in order to hit a price point; however, it does still scale up. You can get a proper Intel Panther Lake chip, and you can get that with up to 32GB RAM. But if you want a really premium laptop that still costs around the same as a MacBook Neo, there you go.

Indeed, the XPS 13 is positioned to actually be a premium product at a budget price, rather than just being a budget product. The select Dell XPS 13 configurations with Intel Core processors will be available soon, starting at $599 for students and $699 for everyone else. Other configurations will arrive later this summer, including Core Ultra models.
