The Acer Swift 14 AI may not be the glossiest of Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite laptops, but it might just be the most practical. Indeed, its matte-finished screen and high-capacity battery are big boons for the sort of general productivity work these laptops are great at. You may come to the Acer Swift 14 AI expecting some life-changing artificial intelligence gubbins, but this is really just a great travel laptop for work. And there’s nothing wrong with that. A few parts could be sharpened up, though. The touchpad is a bit loud, the style isn’t quite on the level of the slickest in this class, and I'm no fan of those touchpad LEDs. But, given the significant price drop of this laptop, those are in no way deal-breakers to what's a long-lasting, solid workhorse.

For its long battery life and sturdy construction, I would recommend the Acer Swift 14 AI if you can catch it on sale for less than $1,000. At its full price of $1,200, it sits too close to competing laptops that are just as fast but offer more noteworthy upgrades -- namely, a gorgeous OLED display. Still, the Swift 14 AI gets the basics right, and its formidable battery life makes it an obvious choice for those constantly on the go who might want to leave their charger behind for a day -- or two. The Asus Vivobook S 15, frequently on sale for less than $1,200, is a better buy and offers a bigger display and lighter weight. Among 14-inch laptops, the ultra-lightweight Asus Zenbook A14 is a compelling OLED option for the same price and the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus 7441 matches the Swift 14 AI's display quality for less.

Acer’s Swift 14 AI is a dependable laptop with a fast Snapdragon processor, long battery life, and sturdy metal build. Despite a keyboard that may not suit touch typists, it offers everything needed for most tasks and then some, including two biometric options, Wi-Fi 7, and a touch screen. While Lenovo’s Yoga Slim 7x has a more vibrant OLED display and possibly a lower price, Acer’s extensive ports make it more practical, and its included travel sleeve is a bonus. A good discount could further solidify its appeal.

The Acer Swift 14 AI makes a good first impression with its solid aluminum frame and ample connectivity options, but it doesn’t quite make the sale. Acer’s trackpad feels cheap and even looks a bit off-kilter. The display, while very sharp and fast, is also a bit on the dim side, and the super-reflective glass will make it even harder to use in a bright environment. It’s hard to judge the value of Copilot+ certification because almost none of those features are available. What limited AI there is at launch is heralded by the illuminated trackpad. This is an unnecessary gimmick, which you can turn off. In general, Acer goes a bit too far with preloaded software, too.
