Az a helyzet, hogy a Fairphone nem rendelkezik a legjobb, vagy legalább a kategóriátlagból kiemelkedő panellel, nincs megnövelt képfrissítés, noha a megjelenítés minősége kifejezetten jó, a kalibráció kellemes és pontos, a maximum fényerő abszolút kielégítő és a karakterrajzolat is éles. A hardver nem a legerősebb, de belenyúltak a középkategória egyik legkielégítőbb megoldásába és elegendő, 6 GB rendszermemóriát és 2 TB-ig bővíthető 128 GB belső tárhelyet tettek mellé. A felhasználói élmény kifogástalan, a módosítatlan felületű Android 11 gyors, letisztult és funkcionális, nincsenek optimalizálási hiányosságok, a hardver éppenséggel komolyabb játékra is alkalmas, minden másra pedig maradéktalanul. A gyorstöltés nem a leggyorsabb a piacon, de még csak a kategóriában sem, de ha szerzünk egy 20 wattnál nagyobb teljesítményű adaptert fél óra alatt félig tölthetjük a cserélhető telepet. A kamerarendszer igazából korrekt, van OIS és autofókuszos ultraszéles makró funkcióval, az eredmények mégsem igazán meggyőzőek, persze közel sem használhatatlan a szett. Nincs sztereó hangzás vagy magas dinamikatartományú megjelenítés, sem jack csatlakozó, sem fejlett kodektámogatás és a dizájn sem különösebben megragadó. Viszont az egész készülék 100%-ban fairtrade alapanyagokból készült, speciel az egyetlen mobil, amiben fair trade arany található, a hátlap 100%-ig újrahasznosított műanyag, az eszköz 100%-ban e-hulladék-semleges, rendelkezik a német Blue Angel fenntarthatósági tanúsítványával, TCO certifikációval, a kiszállítás karbonsemleges, a modularitás ellenére megvan az IP54-es minősítés és megfelel a MIL-STD 810G ütésállóságra vonatkozó kritériumainak, miközben az utolsó komponenst is elérjük egy darab sztenderd, laposfejű csavarhúzóval.

Fairphone 4 is based on a sound and sympathetic idea: to avoid obsolescence while ensuring that nothing goes to waste as electronic waste. The idea that users can replace defective parts themselves also appeals to my hobbyist heart. Unfortunately, you cannot replace the processor yourself with a faster version. Even today it is relatively slow. And I dare not think how technologically obsolete it will be in 2027. That makes the longevity of the device rather hypothetical. The Fairphone 4 is priced in the premium segment. But that’s not where it belongs. Incorporating recycling into the process is costly and when factory workers have to earn a living wage, it will inevitably affect the selling price. But as it stands, conscience is the sole argument for buying the Fairphone 4.

The Fairphone 4, like previous models in this eco-conscious line, is modular, and set up so that users can easily replace the battery and some other parts themselves. Parts and raw materials are as much as possible sourced responsibly, according to the company. Running on Android 11, the device is powered with the mid-range Snapdragon 750G chipset and is 5G ready. On the audio front, the device has two speakers, one top center and one bottom right. Among its peers in this price range (about 650 euros), its global score was among the lowest, notching a 53, which matches the score of the Vivo X51 5G. In playback, the Fairphone 4 is functional. Balance is good, and voices are in general intelligible. But the timbre is very midrange focused — low end is desperately absent and high end isn’t great either — and at maximum volume artifacts become glaring. As a recording device, the Fairphone 4 is functional with some flaws in most use cases. But the device’s memo app was deeply flawed across use cases and attributes, bringing down the overall score. In some cases, the recordings were simply unintelligible.

The modular nature of the phones is just one of many ways in which they’re eco-friendly.
