Xiaomi isn’t targeting users with mid-range or flagship phones but rather, Poco C3 is targeted towards those with a tight budget or to someone who is either new to smartphones or upgrading from a feature phone. Paying Rs 7,999/- for a phone which shares most of its specifications with Redmi 9A isn’t fair since the latter is available for almost Rs 1,000/- less. However, if you still want to try it without getting annoyed by ads, Poco C3 is the right choice. It is competing against the likes of Redmi 9, Realme Narzo 20A, and Realme C12 to name a few options.

Poco C40 - mi a megengedhető mobil most?

Szépen összeszedtük a nyitóoldalon, miért nehéz a belépőszint 60 ezer forintra hízott határán belül életképes ajánlatot fogni, de azért találtunk párat régebbi Realme, Moto vagy remek szoftvertámogatású Galaxy vonalon. A Poco C40 konklúziója így rövid lesz és velős: 55-70 ezer forint között, 60 Hz-es HD panellel, vérszegény hangszóróval és kameraszettel, szűkös alapkonfigurációval és ismeretlen, lassú kínai chippel Android 11-en ragadva az ajánlat versenyképtelen. Hiába tapad jól a mutatós hátlap vagy van meg az IP52 védelem, hiába a három kártyahely, a jack kimenet vagy a lemeríthetetlen gigatelep, úgy szenvedés használni a feleslegesen nagyra nőtt telefont, ahogy van. Miért gondolják egyébként a gyártók, hogy akinek nem létkérdés, hanem kötelező teher a telefon, épp azt kell megszívatni ilyen kezelhetetlenül nagy féltéglákkal, kisméretű alternatíva nélkül? Jó kérdés az is, hogy ha az ár/érték bajnok Poco ennyire vérszegény mobilt tud csak a belépőszint tetején biztosítani, mit tartogat nekünk 2023 ugyanennyiért? Valószínűleg semmi jót, így érdemes lesz egy picit gyűjtögetni egy komolyabb ajánlatra. A rossz hír ugyanis az, hogy az infláció tudásgyarapodás nélkül pakolt vagy 50%-os felárat az alapkategóriára, hogy egy 40 rugót érő telefont 60 ezerért vesztegessenek. Éppen ezért van egy olyan sanda gyanúnk, hogy ez alatt többé már nem kerül piacra életrevaló, új készülék, és ez a közállapot, nem pedig a C40 egyéni gyengélkedése az igazán sajnálatos.

The POCO C40 has a powerful battery, a passable camera and it is capable of solid visuals but all of these are utterly drowned by its terrible performance. It became a chore to use the device and it has left a sour taste. Now available in South Africa, the smartphone has a recommended retail price of R3 199 so it is decidedly an entry-level device. For just over double this price you can pick up the POCO X4 Pro 5G at R6 999 which has an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 processor and 8GB of RAM. For about R1 800 more than the C40 you can pick up the TECNO Camon 17P, another entry-level device with much better performance and negligible differences in terms of camera and battery. In fact, the local market is so saturated with solid entry-level devices, there is no reason to try the POCO C40. It begs the question of why Xiaomi decided to bring this phone to South Africa. Perhaps the brand is betting that its low price will see significant sales, but we simply can’t recommend the C40 over its competitors and other POCO handsets. A disappointing entry in the usually high quality lineage of POCO devices that have shipped to South Africa. The POCO C40 is unable to break free of its poor performance even though it has solid display, camera and battery capabilities.

POCO C50 sounds like a great entry-level phone for just Rs. 6.5K and still be able to perform all the everyday tasks. It looks nice and feels light in the hands. The MediaTek Helio A22 can offer a decent performance and can easily handle calls, taking pictures and casual browsing. The 8MP is just enough to capture usable images in bright daylight. The display quality is just fine. It has an HD+ display so the contents don’t appear very sharp like an FHD display. I was really impressed with the battery backup of the phone. The only two major issues, in my opinion are bloatware and lack of 5G. In fact, given how good its camera and how generous Poco is with RAM and storage, the Poco C65 should be high-up on the shortlist of everyone looking to purchase a phone around Rs 10,000.

The POCO C65 is a no-frills 4G smartphone, best suited for entry-level users. It offers a tall display, which is good for reading and watching content on YouTube. The battery backup is equally solid, and I am happy with the Type-C charging port. While the box includes a charger, you may want to spend a little extra on a more capable charger to enjoy faster charging. Whether to go for the smartphone, I would advise you to not choose the 256GB storage option, as it is an overkill for this segment. Its 128GB option with 6GB RAM should be sufficient for handling daily work, whether it’s watching short videos on social media or using WhatsApp. If you’re okay with spending Rs 10,000, I feel the POCO M6 5G is a better option. You may also want to check out Redmi 13C or Redmi 13C 5G (review) on Amazon, which are almost identical to the POCO C65 and POCO M6 5G, respectively. Whichever phone is available with the best offers, you may want to go for that.

So far, I’ve come across several budget POCO smartphones that get the blend of features, performance, and affordability right but the POCO C65, sadly, isn’t a smash hit. Yes, we are treated to a few improvements such as the 90 Hz display, faster charging, and sleeker body, but the misses are disappointing in the competitive Indian smartphone market. The lack of 5G, when other competitors offer it, is monumental in 2023. I am certain several phones will begin offering 5G starting next year, and the C65 was a great opportunity for POCO to gain a leg up in the game, which they missed out on. At ₹8,499 for the base 4 GB + 128 GB variant, it is a decent option for users who want a basic phone for simple tasks, but that’s about it. However, for power users, this is not the play. A great alternative at this price is the Lava Blaze 2 5G. It has similar features with a faster 5G processor.

We could go on, but you kind of get the point. Honestly, we didn't hate our time with the Poco C65. It is a decent enough device. Its biggest weakness, in our opinion, is the poor performance afforded by the Helio G85 chipset. Other than that, it has almost no glaring flaws, and even the performance is pretty hard to complain about at this price point. If we were shopping in this price range, we would probably try to get something that runs just a bit smoother than the Poco C65. If adjusting the budget is not an option, it should do just fine.
