Nagyon ígéretes és tetszetős notebook a Lenovo hetedik generációs Legion 5i-je: kivitele igényes, teljesítménye magas. Pár helyen érhető csak tetten a spórolás, de ezek a napi használatot csak nagyon kis mértékben befolyásolják. Az egyik, hogy a burkolat jórészt műanyagból készült – de szerencsére ez igényes műanyag. Kicsit jobban fájt a biometrikus azonosítást lehetővé tévő komponensek (ujjlenyomat-olvasó, IR webkamera) teljes hiánya, ami pedig biztonsági szempontból lenne jó. Akinek a hordozhatóság igazán fontos, az nem lesz elégedett, hiszen közel 2,5 kilogramm tömegű a gép, miközben üzemideje sem éppen a leghosszabb – egyértelmű, hogy a Lenovo asztali használatra szánta ezt a termékét. Az előbbieket leszámítva azonban nem nagyon lehet mit kritizálni, hiszen középkategóriás gamer notebookként a Legion 5i remekül teljesít, ára is tudásával arányos. Erős, a játékok mind megfelelő sebességgel futnak rajta. Ergonómiája is rendben van, a portkínálat bőséges és a csatlakozók elhelyezkedése is átgondolt. A kijelző minősége is példás, ami sokat segít abban, hogy a gép univerzálisan felhasználható legyen, tehát nemcsak a játék közben lehetünk elégedettek vele, hanem multimédiás felhasználásra, böngészésre, munkára is bevethetjük (de ha ezek a fontosabbak, akkor azért nézzünk szét a 16:10-es kijelzővel szerelt Pro széria tagjai között). A dizájn is olyan, hogy bárhol elővehetjük, nem ordít róla, hogy játékra született.

Lenovo’s Legion line of gaming laptops has been putting out bangers for years. Back in 2021, we reviewed the previous model of this laptop - the RTX 2060-equipped Lenovo Legion 5i - and were generally impressed by the solid performance and fair pricing. More recently, we awarded the Legion 5 Pro a rare 5-star review, again citing its excellent gaming capabilities and sensible price tag. We’re pleased to report that having spent some time with the most recent 2022 model of the Lenovo Legion 5i, it remains able to trade blows with the best gaming laptops and packs a punch despite its humble appearance. The model we tested came with an Intel Core i7-12700H CPU and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card, which puts it pretty squarely in the mid-range space as far as gaming laptops go. There’s a variety of other models with different processors and GPUs, all of which look to offer a comparable price-to-performance ratio to our review unit.

As aforementioned, the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro (2022) could start from RM8,299. That's a difference of RM1.5K from its predecessor's starting price! Assuming that's the real price tag, I believe most hardcore PC gamers would rather spend that money building their own gaming PCs. To be frank, the laptop's performance and price point are 'overkill' and you can get other 2022 gaming laptops at a lower price albeit with slightly lower specs.

The 2022 edition of the Lenovo Legion 5i Pro 16” gaming laptop hits Gen 7 with that still lovable 16” QHD+ 16:10 aspect ratio display, strong performance and a chill aluminum design that’s office-friendly. This is the Intel 12th gen version that brings Thunderbolt 4 and strong gaming performance, so don’t count it out vs the Ryzen version. It’s available with NVIDIA RTX 3050 Ti, 3060 and 3070 Ti GPUs, a Core i7 with 14 cores, Wi-Fi 6E, ample ports and a responsive keyboard. The 165Hz 2560 x 1600 display now supports VRR (variable refresh rate), and the laptop has a mux switch.

Last year, the Legion 5 Pro was my favorite mid-tier all-purpose laptop of its generation. This year, the Intel-based Legion 5i Pro has big shoes to fill, and offers a significant boost in CPU performance, a slight bump in GPU and combined performance, and a cleaner redesign, while keeping the series's other strong points, and at the same time not tackling its quirks. Are these changes enough to justify a higher price tag and shorter runtimes on battery vs. the 2021 models? Probably not, unless you truly need that powerful CPU for your workloads, and I'll explain why in the detailed review down below.

The crowning glory for this Lenovo Legion is the Vantage software and the Q Control function that allows you to switch power and cooling modes in an instant. This system works well as it is supported by the new Legion ColdFront 4.0 cooling system which allows the Core i7-12700H CPU to run at an impressive speed. While we were impressed by the Performance mode we found it was too noisy to be practical and recommend most users should stick with Auto mode which balances performance, cooling and noise levels very satisfactorily.
