If you’re looking for a Windows laptop for video-editing or heavy creative purposes, this is a seriously tempting machine. It’s fast, the display is wonderful and the chassis is both well constructed and relatively compact. Pick up the cheapest model and you can upgrade the SSD quickly yourself, using the spare internal M.2 port, so you have significant storage for relatively little cash compared with a MacBook Pro. The only thing to be aware of is that, just because the Samsung Galaxy Book3 Ultra has an RTX 40-series GPU inside, doesn’t mean it’s a fully fledged gaming portable.

The Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Ultra is a fine choice for creators. The 3K screen provides excellent colour accuracy, the graphics performance is enough to tackle heavy workloads and it’s portable enough to take on your travels. Is it good enough to thwart the MacBook Pro? Not quite. Apple’s laptop offers superior battery life, a marginally better performance and a more luxurious design. Nevertheless, the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra runs it close, and is one of the best attempts I’ve seen from a Windows laptop in the creativity market. The high price is a problem, however, costing upwards of £3000/$3000 if you want the best specs for a high performance. The Asus Zenbook Pro 14 OLED represents better value and the Razer Blade 16 can be found with similar specs at a cheaper price. The Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Pro is an excellent laptop, owing to its impressively thin-and-light body, high-quality feel and decent selection of ports. A luxurious display takes this machine to another level, especially against some performance-focused rivals. It hasn’t fallen at the keyboard hurdles either, with the keys offering surprisingly good travel and satisfying feedback. If you’re a Samsung fan, there’s little to turn you away. It’s not perfect though. Those looking for a more complete Windows package should look to the Asus Zenbook S 13 OLED (2022), an all-rounder that hits many of the same notes but lacks some of the Galaxy Book 3 Pro laptop’s luxury. Those wanting performance, strong battery life and high-quality materials, as well as quieter fans, should look to the MacBook Air (2022). This Samsung laptop may not be the best thin-and-light machine around but, amongst strong competition, it’s earned a spot in the conversation.

All of which brings us to what is a rather mixed verdict for the Samsung Galaxy Book3 Pro, at least the Core i5 model tested here. While the design is lovely and the screen exemplary, the performance levels are middling while the fan is a little noisy. In addition, the battery life is a far cry from the long-lasting M2 MacBook Air. The screen is so good, though, that the Samsung Galaxy Book3 Pro remains right up there with the best Windows ultraportables you can buy right now. If you’re tempted, my advice is to consider spending the extra on the Core i7 machine, which also comes with more RAM and double the storage – a design of this quality deserves the components to match.

There's a lot to love about the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Pro, it has a nice minimal design, top-notch fit and finish, a gorgeous display and outstanding speakers. We were also very impressed with the thermal management, keeping things cool is no mean feat in such a slim chassis, but Samsung has done an admirable job here. The battery life is a bit of a letdown on this model, possibly owing to the massive high-resolution OLED display, but if you don't mind carrying a (thankfully petite) charger with you, it's still serviceable. It's undeniably a pricey machine, finding itself deep in MacBook territory, but its performance and built quality go a long way towards justifying this. If you're the type of person who doesn't mind spending a little extra to get a premium look and feel, we think you'll be very pleased with the Galaxy Book 3 Pro.

The Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360 is perhaps the most compromise-free 2-in-1 convertible we’ve tested. Its refined design makes the laptop look and feel like a regular full-sized laptop, yet the display can rotate through 360-degrees, and the bundled S Pen turns it into an artist’s delight. The key component here is the new 16in AMOLED display. With a 3K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, it’s as fluid as it is sharp and vibrant. Performance doesn’t let the side down, though the battery will barely get you through a working day. Making full use of that beautiful 120Hz AMOLED display will really take its toll, too. It’s a shame the typing and trackpad experience isn’t quite at the elite level, meaning power users will still benefit from going for a non-convertible option over this one. But Samsung has produced its best 2-in-1 yet, without doubt.

I do not have many complaints about the Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360, but Samsung has a monumental task of convincing customers to go for this l expensive laptop, especially given the global economy. The highlight of the Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360 is its portable and stylish design as well as the stunning display. Performance-wise, you won't face many issues, though there are notebooks on the market with more powerful GPUs and CPUs for a much more affordable price. As I mentioned earlier, Samsung is not oblivious to these challenges, and the company is positioning its notebook for productivity-focused customers who value a great display, reliable performance, and long battery life. To an extent, the Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360 ticks all these boxes, but the laptop makes more sense to buy if you're already in the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem. Otherwise, the M2 MacBook Pro is a great choice if productivity is your priority. If you want a powerhouse at the cost of a good battery and sleek design, the Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED can be on your list. In the next generation, Samsung may consider improving the audio system, the placement of the trackpad, and reducing the bezels. Until then, the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360 is a good reminder of the things money can buy.

If you step up, you get the Galaxy Book3 Ultra, a more traditional notebook (that does not fold back into a tablet) with a price of $500 higher than the 360. If you're looking for the best convertible Windows notebook for illustration and artwork on the market today, it's still Microsoft's Surface Laptop Studio. If you're just looking for the illustration and artwork features in a tablet, you're going to want to hit up the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, or even a member of the Galaxy Tab S7 family. They're ready to roll.

It provides reliable performance and is lightweight, making it easy to carry around. Furthermore, the device’s responsive touchscreen allows it to double as a decent Windows tablet, providing an additional level of versatility. However, the Galaxy Book3 Pro 360’s battery life is its only real shortcoming. While it’s not terrible by any means, it falls short when compared to other devices on the market. And that OLED display, is really something that would make you want to ignore any shortcoming that you may see – it is that good. Then, there are a ton of exclusive software features that work in Samsung’s own ecosystem. Samsung has made a pretty solid laptop, even for people who are not yet integrated into Samsung’s ecosystem. For those who are, those who already have a flagship-level Samsung device, this is almost a no-brainer, especially if you’re usage involves using a touch screen and a stylus.

Here, Samsung’s Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 justifies its value with many more, on top of a somewhat reasonable price tag. For what you’re paying, the Book3 Pro 360 offers substantial upgrades over the Book2 Pro 360 as well as some best-of-class features, period. Even if you aren’t as in love with OLEDs as we are, the higher resolution OLED and refresh rate certainly help sell this laptop. Inking, the convertible form factor, its solid audio and webcam experience, and its presence as a 13th-gen Core Evo laptop do too. Buying a Samsung laptop to accompany a Samsung Galaxy phone is an ultimately less compelling need. We do think that the Book3 series offers something unique that maybe only the Asus Vivobook and Zenbook series seem to be consciously addressing: laptops focused on showing off content first and foremost. (Consider the Vivobook Pro 16 OLED as an alternative until we manage to test the latest offerings.) For all it brings to the table, Samsung’s Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 earns one of our first Editor’s Choice awards of 2023.

Ultimately, I don’t have too, too many complaints about the Galaxy Book Ultra. It’s a unique device with solid perks for Samsung fans, and my biggest hangups — the touchpad and the webcam — can be fixed with peripherals that a solid port selection allows for. Nevertheless, I do feel that the Ultra’s $2,399 price is high for what it will ultimately bring to the table (for most people). If you’re part of its target audience — folks who want the best mobile experience possible for photo and video work — it’s worth taking a look. I'll be frank. My initial impressions of the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra were not great. I ran into software bugs and weird performance problems, not to mention poor battery life and general discomfort while typing. But Samsung has since issued software updates that fixed the few bugs I ran into. I figured out that I needed to switch the display to 60Hz and run in optimized mode to get a good battery-life-to-performance ratio, and gaming performance is now stellar once I realized that Nvidia DLSS works magic on RTX GPUs. While I wish some of these things were a little more obvious out of the box, this sort of tweaking isn't uncommon on Windows machines. On the positive side, all of the unique Samsung Galaxy ecosystem features were as plug-and-play as I could have possibly hoped for. Linking my phone and earbuds was effortless, and I can now use my Tab S7 as a second screen while I'm traveling so I don't have to lose my second monitor productivity. In a nutshell, the things that make the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra unique are the things that work really, really well, and that's a testament to how good of a device Samsung has built. I just wish it worked with an S Pen.

In the world of flagship devices, if you execute a premium product well, the price is the only real downside. That is the case for the Galaxy Book3 Ultra, successfully hitting on the best of what Samsung’s laptops have to offer. This 16-inch laptop is sleekly designed, thin, and lightweight—meanwhile, it packs in a beautiful screen, a marathon-running battery, and a powerful array of the latest components. Samsung's barrier to entry is high, though, even for the base model. In fairness, the rest of Samsung’s Galaxy lineup is the solution here if you want a laptop like this system, but at a lower price. Some of you may need this level of power, though some of the alternatives are equally fast but less expensive. This system really is for highly mobile pro-level content creators who need the juice (and want those Samsung phone features)—not anyone seeking a more standard everyday laptop. We’re also in an awkward spot where many major product lines have not yet been updated with 13th Gen Intel chips, so the Book3 Ultra is one of the most cutting-edge options as it stands, versus buying a system with a last-gen CPU. The performance difference won’t hurt you much compared with, say, the HP Envy 16, which will also save you a few hundred dollars if you’re looking for a better deal. If the Galaxy design and latest parts are more appealing to you, we can recommend the Book3 Ultra, as long as your budget can fit it in.

With more variety in terms of display, processor, GPU, and features than perhaps ever before, it’s difficult to compare the Samsung Galaxy Book3 Ultra to anything else currently on the market. The Book3 Ultra holds its own in terms of performance against everything but the MSI Katana, a budget gaming laptop that’s comparable on paper but little else. Samsung compares well in performance, with very little competition in battery life—at least when it comes back to playing back video. And video looks great, too, on the Book3 Ultra’s OLED screen. The price certainly leans heavily toward the premium tier, though not too far out of reach for what the Book3 Ultra offers. Based on what we know of the upcoming Asus Vivobook Pro 16X 3D OLED and last year’s VivoBook Pro 16X OLED, we’d say the upcoming Asus Vivobook promises the stiffest challenge to the Book3 Ultra. But it hasn’t arrived yet. Right now, the Samsung Galaxy Book3 Ultra is the content-creation notebook to beat—and for the moment, nothing does.

In addition to its impressive performance, this notebook also packs a gorgeous OLED display that makes viewing content and playing games a pure joy. On its own, it’s a fantastic Windows 11 laptop. But like the Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360, you won’t be able to make use of features like Samsung Multi Control if you don’t own the latest iterations of the company’s smartphones. The number of pre-installed Samsung apps is effectively bloatware for those not invested in the company’s ecosystem. As I said, this is a great Windows laptop. But some of its appeal is lost when you remove its interoperability with Samsung devices. The biggest rival to the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Ultra is the MacBook Pro 16-inch. Samsung’s laptop is remarkably lighter, has a full-size USB port and offers a more colorful (albeit dimmer) OLED display. Plus, the Book 3 Ultra is a better choice for gamers due to its Nvidia GTX 4050 GPU and Windows ecosystem. However, the MacBook Pro offers much longer battery life and has better performance for video editing. Overall, the Book 3 Ultra isn’t a MacBook Pro killer per se, but it is a killer 16-inch Windows laptop and is deserving of the Ultra name.

It wouldn’t be totally unfair to say last year’s Galaxy Book laptops were middle-of-the-road machines. They stuck to 1080p screens, while rivals were nudging closer to 4K, and had largely plastic builds to keep weight in check – something that didn’t gel with the premium prices. The Galaxy Book 3 Pro series fixes all that. The 16in model is a well-built machine thanks to its all-metal construction, has a gorgeous 16:10 OLED display that keeps pace with big-name rivals, and desktop performance is really rather tasty thanks to those Intel internals. The keyboard isn’t perfect, though. Battery life could also be better, and on-the-go gamers will be more interested in the Galaxy Book3 Ultra and its dedicated Nvidia GPU. There’s nothing here we feel particularly deserves the “Pro” moniker, either. For a commuter companion that doesn’t skimp on screen space, though, it does a fantastic job.

Samsung is keen to make the Galaxy Book computers part of its ecosystem of Galaxy mobiles, tablets and accessories. So there’s a bunch of apps and features that enable this. You can quickly share media with other Galaxy devices, expand the screen of a Galaxy tablet, and control different devices from each other. It’s smart and convenient if you have the right gadgets around. I tested several of the features with a Galaxy Z Fold 5 I have in for testing, and they work as promised. I still haven’t figured out how to use them, but perhaps my lack of imagination is the limit. Samsung also has its own suite of programs that are intended to add value to the computer, but I’m more doubtful about what they actually add. Samsung Gallery is an image viewing program where Windows already has two good ones.

80% Samsung Galaxy Book 3 review: a great laptop if the price is right

The Samsung Galaxy Book 3 is less consistent than we'd like in areas, but the lower-end models sure do provide a classy experience on a tighter budget. It has the Samsung style we associate with more expensive laptops, and for many folks the basic spec will do the job just fine. That's where this laptop is a winner. Thanks to higher upgrade costs than you'd usually see from Lenovo or Acer, however, the shortcomings do start to stick out more if you pay for a specced-up model. That's where this laptop loses, as that includes poor colour saturation, a highly flexible keyboard plate, and a plastic touchpad surface. In summary, therefore, if you can find the Galaxy Book 3 in its entry-level spec for a bargain price then it's got the style to punch well above the competition. Just don't pay extra for the step-up models which then fall down in various areas where Samsung's other models in the range would do a better job – as would the competition.

All in all, the Galaxy Book 3 is a bit of a mixed bag. There are things that I love about it, the build quality and styling are top-notch, the speakers are good and the performance is great. The port selection is also above average and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity is nice to have. However, a lot of corners have been cut to hit its more accessible price point. The display is fine, but at 1080p resolution with a 60Hz refresh rate, it's far from impressive. The keyboard has no backlight, and at this price, that's borderline unacceptable. The webcam is also very middle-of-the-road, as is the battery life. On the whole, it's a decent laptop. It performs excellently, it's slim and lightweight, and it feels like a quality piece of kit. But for the model that I tested, with a retail price approaching £900, it doesn't do much to separate itself from the competition.
