The Dell XPS 15 is by far one of the best laptops we have tested in a long time. It's hard to fault, as its weaknesses – which are few – aren't too significant. For example, the trackpad taking some to get used to will become irrelevant after time, and the chassis being prone to scratches is preventable if you look after the laptop properly and buy a protective carry case. The real caveat here, though, is the price. At just less than £1,700 for a laptop configured as reviewed, the XPS 15 doesn't come cheap. However, the laptop does start at a much lower price of £1,099, but for this you would have to sacrifice a lot of performance, as this buys you a lower entry-level specification: an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM and a slower 500GB hard drive with a 32GB SSD to manage faster boots.

The bright, vibrant and incredibly high resolution screen is truly beautiful to look at, though it does have a major drawback – it is extremely reflective. This makes it very difficult to use in a bright room or in an outdoor environment, as the reflection of your own face will be very distracting. In low light conditions, the gloss screen does help improve media viewing quality, but a matt finish would be more to our own tastes. That screen looks stunning when playing ‘casual’ titles like Hearthstone but it will struggle to run anything moderately intensive at native resolutions … the modest GT750M graphics are just not designed for this. It’s not that 1080p looks bad, but it just seems wasteful having all that pixel density and not being able to use it. It might have been nice to see an upgrade option for a 765M or 770M, but then you’re crossing over into Alienware territory.

The XPS 15 (9530) certainly trumps its Windows-based competition like the Asus Zenbook VX51VZ-XB71 in battery life, price, and features. But how does it stack up to the Apple MacBook Pro, our current Editors' Choice for desktop replacement laptops? It matches the MacBook Pro in performance (multimedia and 3D), has more RAM, higher resolution touch screen, and twice the storage. However, it also has a higher price by almost $300, problems with glass reflectivity, and two hours less battery life. The MacBook Pro comes with iWork and iLife apps, which arguably make the MacBook more useful without additional purchases for the XPS 15. In terms of bragging rights, premium construction materials, and wow factor, both are even. It is very close, but those two hours of battery life and $300 price difference tips the scales in favor of the current champ. The XPS 15 (9530) comes highly recommended, but at the end of the day if we were in the market for such a system and if it were our money, we'd buy the MacBook Pro.

Az XPS 15-ről elmondható, hogy inkább a prémium anyaghasználattal és kinézetével emelkedik ki, hiszen hardveresen viszonylag átlagos gépről van szó, ha a gamer kategóriát nézzük. Az előbbiekért a gyártó a már tőle megszokott módon rengeteg pénzt elkér, jóval többet, mint amennyibe egy másik márka hasonló tudású gépe kerül. A legolcsóbb változat ára félmillió forint felett indul, a processzor és a kijelző függvényében pedig 700+ ezer forintos verziót is találhatunk a polcokon. Összességében egy olyan gépről van szó, ami remekül teszi a dolgát minden fronton. Talán a lassú merevlemez már nem illik ebbe az árkategóriába (bár ennek nyilván kapacitási okai is vannak), valamint az akkumulátor üzemideje lehetne jobb. Innentől kezdve lényegében minden a pénztárcánkon múlik, ugyanis hiába remek notebook az XPS 15, bizony ár-érték arányban lehet jobbat találni, úgyhogy mindenképpen nézzünk szét a piacon vásárlás előtt.

The Dell XPS 15 9550 I5/960M version is a very good machine in my opinion, more than the usual $1000 gaming laptops – way more thin & lightweight, much better build quality, display has much higher contrast than the others and keyboard is better than compared to some of them too. And remember the better support in the form of drivers/bios updates.

It’s also a little on the pricey side, when MSI’s brilliant GS40 6QE Phantom can be had for over £100 less, with much more compelling gaming abilities and a lighter chassis. Most of the price difference is due to the screen, however. It is lovely, and confers great bragging rights, but adds £300 to the price compared to the Full HD model. With that being said, we can conclude that this notebook can handle some gaming and short video rendering on-the-go (since the Turbo Boost feature of the CPU isn’t well utilized) but it will mostly suit people that don’t aim for prolonged usage away from the charger and those who are constantly in a need of perfect screen quality for color-sensitive work. Still, the price is a bit off and you may compensate with the Full HD variant without the touch panel as this is a great way to cut down the cost of this notebook. It is not a laptop for everyone, but I know three "regular" people who swear by this machine. However, the RTX 3060 in the XPS 17 translates to a significant increase graphics performance over the XPS 15. Those considering picking the XPS 17 over the XPS 15 for the RTX 3060, might want to think twice about whether the bump in graphics performance is worth the additional cost. The RTX 3050 Ti graphics aid its multimedia capabilities but are of limited use for 3D gaming. If you are devising a way to package a work laptop and gaming laptop into one, you’ll need to look elsewhere. You’ll likely be able to find another laptop with a higher-end RTX GPU for less than the cost of our RTX 3050 Ti-based test model, but you’ll need to sacrifice the OLED panel and settle for a lower screen resolution than the 3.5K resolution that our XPS 15 9520 provides.

If I were to buy the Dell XPS 15, I'd be comfortable with a less-powerful RTX 4050 and a smaller storage size of 512GB, since most of my work is saved on the cloud. With the 3.5K resolution display add-on, that rings me up at around $2,049, a relatively fair price for one of the more premium Windows laptops out there. You'll save an additional $300 if you can live with the FHD+ (1920 x 1200) non-touch display. And if looks are all you really care about, the Dell XPS 15 can be had for as little as $1,299. The Dell XPS 15 9530 is a sleek, slim laptop that packs a punch despite its weight. To get much better performance than this, buyers need to consider bulkier gaming notebooks with bigger thermal solutions, higher power requirements, and heftier weights. Especially on the CPU side, the latest XPS 15 and its Intel 13th Gen Core i7 processor had plenty of get up and go for the vast majority of users. While gaming performance might have been disappointing compared to the biggest and baddest gaming laptops around, we found it to be more than satisfying for this class of machine, and with upscaling technology like DLSS 3.0 or even AMD's FSR being able to sharpen up lower-resolution images to look good, the XPS 15's 3.5K OLED display won't go to waste. The 2023 Dell XPS 15 is more or less exactly what you'd expect from the company flagship. Its fresh components deliver measurably superior power and longevity, while the machine's premium build and design remain intact. It may not be overly exciting, but XPS loyalists and upgraders should be more than happy. As far as drawbacks, our review unit is quite pricey, and the GeForce RTX 4070 GPU can't reach the potential here that it can in higher-wattage laptops. Still, the model 9530 has a reasonable starting price and lesser GPU upgrades are affordable. While it's far from a reinvention—and it's well past time to get at least a 1080p webcam in there—the XPS 15 easily repeats its Editors' Choice win as a top-notch desktop replacement.

The Dell XPS 15 OLED (2023) isn’t a monumental update over its predecessor. If you own the previous model, you can safely skip this year’s offering. With that said, this is still a phenomenal Windows laptop with a vivid OLED display, an amazing keyboard and speedy performance for both work and play. If you want a Windows laptop that’s great for working, gaming and some light video editing, you can’t go wrong with this notebook. If the XPS 15 OLED isn’t to your liking or you’d prefer an Apple laptop, the MacBook Pro 16-inch or MacBook Pro 14-inch make for awesome alternatives. For a lighter Windows laptop offering comparable performance, the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Ultra is a good choice. Though it’s a nominal update, the Dell XPS 15 OLED (2023) is another great example of what makes the XPS 15 lineup Dell’s answer to Apple’s MacBooks. Iterative or not, this is a brilliant laptop.

Dell’s new XPS 15 is much like the old XPS 15, but faster. Much faster. The one-two punch of new Intel 13th-gen processors and Nvidia RTX 40-series graphics provides real-world upgrades over the prior model. The old XPS 15 was a respectable workhorse but not always an impressive performer, especially in 3D games. The new model is perfectly capable of handling even the most demanding modern titles at 60 FPS—when packing the RTX 4070, at least. There is still room for improvement. The touchpad can be overly sensitive and the webcam could use an upgrade. Still, these problems don’t detract from the XPS 15’s slim design, high build quality, and strong performance, and it remains a go-to pick for those craving a premium laptop with a balance of portability with speed.

Edit photos and videos? Check. Run a bunch of spreadsheets and multitasking tasks? Check. Run games at a reasonable frame rate? Check. The Dell XPS 15 can do all that and then some. Dell has created a serious powerhouse of a system with a 13th Gen Intel processor and an Nvidia RTX 4070 GPU and doesn’t skimp on the multimedia with a vivid 3.5K OLED touch display and a banging 4-speaker setup. And while Dell is targeting creative professionals, the XPS 15 can make just about any PC fan happy. However, for $2,799, I wish the brightness was better and the battery life was longer. Now if you’re a Mac fan, you should definitely look into the MacBook 16, but bear in mind the system I reviewed costs an eye-watering $5,299. Overall, the Dell XPS 15 is a jack-of-all-trades laptop that does pretty darn well at everything.

The only catch is that this is a lower-power 40-watt version of the 4070 GPU, while the larger XPS 17 has access to the more powerful 60-watt version. For FHD gaming, however, it should make a big difference. Also keep in mind that if you're primarily using this for creative work, you'll want to download the latest Studio drivers from Nvidia (which come pre-installed), rather than the usual gaming drivers. I love being able to play games at serious detail settings on a conservative-looking laptop, and to be able to get away with just a simple USB-C charger. It's about 4.25 pounds, so it's not a laptop you'll want to carry around every day in a shoulder bag. For a bigger screen at a light weight, look at something like LG's excellent Gram line. With its big, high-res OLED screen and powerful components, I see the XPS 15 as a good Windows-based alternative to a MacBook Pro, or as a semi-desktop-replacement system for your home office.

The Dell XPS 15 (2023) laptop is a refresh of the phenomenal version from 2022, which scored a perfect five out of five stars from us. But while the 2023 model has mostly stayed the same in terms of design and offerings, there are some key differences between the two, both good and bad. From the outside, you see the same light silver chassis that sets it apart from many of the other best Ultrabooks. Though it feels comparable to the best light and thin laptops in terms of weight, the chassis still has a nice, hefty feeling to it. It’s also the exact same chassis from the previous model, which was also a work of art. It only makes sense not to alter a design that served it so well. Just as with any Dell laptop, there are a wide variety of configurations and specs to choose from, depending on what your needs are.

The 2023 Dell XPS 15 (9530) has significant internal upgrades this year with NVIDIA RTX 4050/4060/4070 dedicated graphics and Intel 13th gen H series 45 watt CPUs. There are two 16:10 display options, including the lovely 3.5K OLED panel, a relatively compact USB-C charger, Windows Hello facial and fingerprint recognition and upgradable internals. As ever, this is a multimedia and mobile workstation laptop that can handle some gaming too.

As I’ve mentioned throughout this review, there’s much to like about the XPS 15 (9530)’s design. It’s still sleek and modern enough that newer 15-inch laptops don’t eclipse it, but even so, it’s starting to feel a little dated. Certainly, you can’t fault the build quality. But the CPU upgrade was underwhelming, providing minimal performance improvement — unlike the XPS 15 (9520), which was a big jump over its previous generation. It’s only the addition of the RTX 4070 option that gives the XPS 15 (9530) a meaningful boost in performance, and even there, it’s less than it might be due to the GPU running close to its minimal power specification. Toss in an old-school 720p webcam and Wi-Fi 6, and this year’s XPS 15 lacks some of the cutting-edge feel it once had.
